Meet Guy Etienne of Port- au Prince, Haiti
My advisory students had the opportunity to meet and enjoy a conversation with Guy Etienne from Haiti. First, they had to play detective to find his location in the world using yes or no questions. Once they solved that puzzle, they were able to speak candidly with him. Guy is one of the top 10 teachers identified in last years competition for the global teacher prize. Offered the Minister of Education position 5 times and declined it because he really loves TEACHING! I believe they were inspired by his words of wisdom about setting and working to achieve goals, then setting new ones for yourself and achieving them, and so on. They also loved his joyful personality. They asked to talk with him again next week.
It was an amazing opportunity enjoyed by all!
I wanted to share this experience and unfortunately this is the only picture I was able to take today but ask the kids and they will tell you how much they enjoyed the experience. He was able to show us a little of his school building and what it looks like in Haiti right now.
All in all a wonderful international piece of the day growing better communicators and global citizens using the Internet with every mystery Skype "game." #teachersmatter Varkey Foundation @getienne @skype @TeacherPrize thank you skype for making meetings like this possible. Thank you Varkey for connecting us.

Cheery Children Education CentreThe Cheery Children Education Centre (CCEC) is located in the heart of Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya at Mashimoni. The founder of CCEC could not ignore the plight of vulnerable and destitute children in the slum who to some extend are neglected and abandoned thus fail to get the basic vital need Education. We are a small educational institution offering humanitarian assistance and caring for the needs of the poverty stricken children in Nairobi's Kibera slum, the largest slum here in Africa by population and size. This is where these children learn to know the value of a family in which they are cared for, loved and educated until such a time they will be able to take care of themselves and their own future families in the society.T._
